afé Sorgenfri is one of Copenhagen's oldest restaurants. The red-painted house on the corner of Brolæggerstræde and Knabrostræde was rebuilt in 1796 after the great fire in 1795, and has served as a restaurant and tavern since 1882. The several hundred years of history can be fully felt in the cozy rooms, which instantly transport you to an old-fashioned lunch room where the cloth is red-checked, the schnapps is cold and the herring and pâté stands proudly on a silver dish on the table. You can choose from a good selection of classic open-faced sandwiches such as tartare with raw egg yolk, beef brisket with horseradish and loin steak with fried onions. To drink is a selection of schnapps, beer on tap and bottle and also a digestive or two for the coffee. Café Sorgenfri has a small number of seats outside, so there is room for a nice lunch in the sun when the weather permits. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner.
