Cafe Dan Turell is one of Copenhagen's oldest cafes. The story goes that the café was named after Dan Turell - the famous contemporary author and society critic – and then he would be drinking and eating free of charge from the bar. The bar is decorated with many covers of the same author's works.
The café in Store Regnegade was opened in 1977 and was inspired by the Parisian bohemian lifestyle, which had only just found its way to Copenhagen. Today - just like then - you can sit in a relaxed setting and enjoy the city's leben that constantly flows past the big windows facing the street.
Cafe Dan Turell's guests are a mixed crowd. There are both the early birds who will just have a quick cup of espresso and a bit of bread before heading of to work, while there are also many people who spend more time, sitting down and enjoying a Dan Turell Brunch plate.
There is likewise a wealth of classic lunch dishes, salads, sandwiches, sandwiches, burgers and pasta dishes. There is also the possibility to order starters and main courses ranging from salmon, creamy tartar, nachos, steak au fries and many other choices.
The kitchen is open until 10 PM, after which Cafe Dan Turell changes character and becomes a livelier place where the city's youth comes out, enjoys the cafe's cold drinks and slowly start a party at this cafe in the center of Copenhagen.
There is also a lot of live music at the cafe - especially in July, where there will be lots of live jazz in connection with the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
