"Fyrtøjet" is named after Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale with the same name that was published in 1835. Hans Christian Andersen lived several times in this street, which was a lively neighborhood filled with sailors, artists etc.
The restaurant is like stepping into a magical universe with its many old classic furniture and fine furniture, the flickering candles and the many pictures on the walls, depicting scenes from the author's fairy tales. Hans Christian Andersen's spirit is on the spot - and the owner has given the restaurant a modern Danish twist.
Breakfast is served from 9:00am to 11:00am. You can choose between a brunch dish and Hans Christian Andersen's special breakfast plate. Lunch is served from 11:00am to 16:00pm. There are plentiful classic dishes to choose from for example "Fyrtøjets" plate with curried herring with capers and onions, fish fillet with home-made relish, chicken salad with crispy bacon & chives, roast beef with horseradish, roasted onion & relish, shrimp with mayonnaise and last but not least mild brie with homemade crackers.
The evening menu is served between 17:00pm and 22:00pm. There is a nice selection of steak, fish, poultry and lamb.
In the festive season you can enjoy the Christmas buffet every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from Nov. 7th. Companies are quite welcome, as there are extra banqueting rooms on the 1st floor. It is also possible to order a picnic basket for a festive event or a romantic date.
