Kompasset is named after its location in Nyhavn 65, which previously housed three flag and compass makers.
Kompasset's mission is to unite modern sandwiches and Danish beer in the best way possible. On the menu you will always find 10 open-faced sandwiches paired with beers from Danish breweries. Chef's Thilde Gilling, who has worked several years in Oslo at Akersberget / Ølakademiet, as head chef in Kolonihagen in Frogner and as head chef at Brewdog in Oslo, has returned to Denmark to run Kompasset. In all the restaurants she cultivated the meeting between a good glass of beer and the well-prepared meal. It is also the inspiration for the menu: the base in the dark, malty bread and the seasonal ingredients, complemented by beer.
The classic sandwich is sometimes also subjected to inspiration from Japanese and Asian elements. Unlike many other smørrebrød restaurants, Kompasset also serves smørrebrød in the evening. The tastefully decorated restaurant is located in the living room of the building, which is over 400 years old. The restaurant has only 30 seats inside, so there is plenty of room at the tables and a quiet atmosphere in the high-ceilinged rooms.
You sit comfortably in the beautiful design furniture, and after dinner it is possible to drink coffee on the sofas in the restaurant's lounge. Kompassets facilities also include 70 seats outside, so there is ample opportunity to get a place in the sun and enjoy the quiet atmosphere and life of the people in Nyhavn.
