Cafe Sommersko is a well-known name in Copenhagen. And rightly so. When brothers Jørgen and Søren Bro - together with artist Kenn André Stilling - opened the cafe on June 11, 1976 it was the first time Copenhagen was introduced to the concept of cafes.
The cafe quickly became a gathering place for the city's iconic notabilities, who came to meet in an informal setting in Kronprinsensgade. Brothers Bro and Stilling brought home the concept from France, which also applied to the gastronomic directions of Café Sommersko.
And the same is still somewhat true today, where the cuisine is inspired by the great and proud tradition of French cooking. For example, every day you will find home-cooked dish of the day for 135 kroner – a dish, which takes its roots within Danish and French cuisine.
On the a la carte menu there is a selection of delicious appetizers, and main courses that offer both fish, seafood, the Sommersko burger, pork or a Rib Eye steak with lots of mushrooms. As a guest you can also choose a five-course tasting menu for 345 kroner.
The cafe is also a favorite place to enjoy a brunch or a lunch, which includes a lot of classic cafe dishes such as burgers, sandwiches, salads, charcuterie and a lot of other wonderful things.
At Cafe Sommersko there is also a lot of live jazz throughout the summer - and also the house pianist is playing during the weekends to accompany the relaxed brunch atmosphere at the café.
Cafe Sommersko has since 1976 been renovated many times, but much of the interior and the furniture from then on are still the same. So even though time is different, one can still feel the way Copenhageners have experienced the cafe concept in its’ early youth.
