Restaurant Vita is truly one of Copenhagen's oldest restaurants. And not much has changed - in a good way. It's still a restaurant, where after midnight you will find an open kitchen and plenty of life in the now preserved rooms on Store Kongensgade.
In the old days, the political and cultural elite met in Restaurant Vita for a beer and a hearty, Danish midnight snack. Today, it is still a favorite place to socialize after midnight, where the kitchen still serves food for the hungry guests.
The menu features such signature dishes as the roast pork with parsley sauce and an old fashioned roast duck which undoubtedly will bring back of the Danish cuisine before it became New Nordic.
Main courses are between 120-235 kroner - which is very reasonable in relation to the sizes of the plates.
Especially on Friday and Saturday it feels as if stepping into the bygone era when Restaurant Vita’s house pianist – until midnight – accompanies the food and drink with merry notes from the piano.
Therefore it is recommended to book on weekends if you want to experience the old-fashioned atmosphere that was enjoyed by the 1920 Copenhagen elite.
But not everything stays old fashioned here. In the summer season Restaurant Vita will light up the barbecue on Landegreven - the nearby square - and serve food and an atmosphere, which looks to the South. However, for the first time the restaurant will serve street food which has taken its inspiration from classic dishes originating from Denmark.
